Trainers from all over the country are expected to enter greyhounds for Sunderland Greyhound Stadium’s biggest prize of the year, part of a terrific festival of racing due to take place over three nights in July.
Stadium managers expect some of the country’s best greyhounds to descend on Sunderland to compete for their share of the £65,000 purse in four races, the Festival Flyer, the Puppy Plate, the Grand Prix and the main event, the Classic.
The heats will take place at the stadium in Newcastle Road on Saturday 2nd July, followed by the semi-finals on Saturday 9th July and the finals night on Wednesday 13th July.
Each night’s racing will be accompanied by the stadium’s usual package of drinks and meals deals for racegoers.
Ben Stores, Sales and Marketing Executive at the Stadium, said: “The festival attracts entries from some of the best trainers in the business from all over the country.
“The festival is the biggest event of our year and attracts large crowds to enjoy some of the best racing on offer in the region.
“With some of the best dogs in the sport taking part, competition to reach finals night will undoubtedly be fierce.”
